57. Rodney McKay is the diva head chef of a trendy restaurant known for its avant-garde, citrus-free menu. After a disasterous and public confrontation with a food critic, his manager/agent Elizabeth Weir insists that he has to do something to mend his public image, and threatens to book him on a Food Network special.

To avoid that horror, Rodney ends up giving a series of demonstrations at a local cooking school and meets John Sheppard–a self-taught cook trying to start his own pizzeria/sushi bar/taco stand/thing. John’s got no discipline, decidedly California sensibilities, and a pastry chef named Ronon Dex. He’s also got the audacity to challenge Rodney to a little friendly “competition:” they’ll swap restaurants for a set period of time, with free reign to make over the menus, and whoever gets the better reviews (from a critic Rodney hasn’t insulted recently) gets bragging rights and a full-page newspaper ad paid for by the loser.

Elizabeth thinks it’s a charming idea, but Rodney is just out to prove that his classical cuisine reigns supreme. Can both restaurants survive the swap?

(1) The Goong AU

In which John is Shin and Rodney is Chae-gyung. LOOK, DO I HAVE TO SAY ANY MORE? It would only be the best thing EVER. Royal. Hijinks. Ensue. (Though okay. I have no idea who the love rivals would be, and obviously, this would not be set in Korea.)

Rodney is brilliant and snarky, but bad with people. However, he’s got a few friends, who are probably Zelenka & the other scientists, since Chae-gyung’s friends are people of the same studies. He has a not-so-minor crush (along with half the country) on Prince John, who likes Chaya, who rejects his marriage proposal to pursue her uh… religious studies? (I DON’T KNOW. WHAT’S-HER-FACE DID BALLET.)

Cue hilarity when Rodney and John get married because their grandfathers thought it would be a great idea if their grandkids married, opposite genders be damned. :”>

(2) The Unleashed AU - I was talking to thisissirius and aesc about this.

John would be the main character who was trained to fight when his collar thing is removed. Insert otherwise traumatic life (treated like an animal, does not know how to act or think other than as a child, since he was never socially acclimated, etc etc) until he escapes. Y’know, the usual! Except he is not a Chinese orphan. Erm. Also, John kicking people’s ass! And being scary!John! Like when he was all bugified! Just without the bug this time.

Kolya is obviously the loanshark who kept and ‘raised’ and trained John! He would totally keep Unleashed!John on a collar like a dog sort of like BDSM gone wrong, because we all know Kolya totally has it for John throughout the show, except please don’t write any sort of sex torture or something, as that would just ruin the entire thing, since John is supposed to be vaguely child-like. John’s mom was a very very bright piano student who got killed by Kolya and his men, hence John not being raised correctly and all that. Also, musically gifted! Which leads us to …

Rodney is the blind piano player/composer dude! Who is snarky and unrelenting but y’know HEART OF SQUISHY MARSHMALLOW SOFTNESS UNDERNEATH, just the way we love him. ;> And he gets John to de-curl (from under the bed)! And defrost! And be all humanized! And be able to live without the collar! (When Rodney feelds the collar at first, and tries to take it off, John TOTALLY HAS A FIT, because he’s terrified of hurting Rodney.)

(Madison can be Rodney’s niece who is going to music school and is no longer the love interest character as that would OBVIOUSLY RUIN THE POINT OF RODNEY/JOHN. :x Or we can not have this at all. Instead, we can have Carson or Cadman or insert character of choice who is not too important plot-wise but is there to help Rodney out in day to day things that he can’t really do well.)

RODNEY SHOULD TOTALLY ATTEMPT TO TEACH JOHN HOW TO COOK. :D “It’s the smell, John. See? :>”

(3) The Baseball AU

In which John and Rodney are in professional baseball and of course John has to be the pitcher because seriously, self-sacrificing fool and Rodney is the catcher.

Also, there is dumb hilarity that happens in the locker rooms and batting cage, because Rodney runs like crap but damn can he hit ball. I think. Also, John is only a pitcher because he likes fast things, even though he can pretty much do anything.

Okay, confession: I haven’t watched baseball properly in three years and can’t remember many things for the life of me. I give this one to you to play with.

(4) The Wuxia (Martial Arts) AU

In which John is this quirky wuxia hero who really is not interested in glory and power and new moves and whatnot. He just really just likes to wander the countryside, enjoying the landscapes and occasionally (accidentally) helping old ladies out of dire situations, who then cook marvelous dishes for him while their granddaughters develop sickening large crushes on him while he’s totally oblivious and oh so so so very gay. But then he somehow gets roped into saving the world from evil wuxia dudes dominating and destroying society as we know it. Again and again and again.

And in which Rodney is the genius scholar who really is not interested in learning martial arts but somehow manages to fall in with John on this bizarre journey. Also, John teaches Rodney magical martial art thingies despite Rodney sulking a lot. Also, there is a metaphor where being taught awesome martial arts = sex, somehow.

Also they fall in love in the usual John and Rodney way, aka in a really strange and possibly roundabout way.

Actually, I would dig any sort of wuxia!SGA inanities. :D
