For those of you who don’t know what it is, Shousetsu Bang*Bang is a webzine for original boy’s love (aka slash) one-shot stories, intended as an online, English-language text equivalent of one of those All Yomikiri Bimonthly Summer Special 100 Extra Pages!! manga phonebooks where every story is about the torrid romance of an ordinary schoolboy and his soccer club captain - or a teenaged yakuza boss and his faithful lieutenant - or the prince of an exotic desert country and the emerald-eyed winged bishounen he rescues from the sawtoothed sand monsters of G’or, self-contained in 30 pages and heartwarmingly predictable.

(The Editor is the great and wonderful and ridiculously amazing petronia, by the way, if it’s any more enticement!)

This issue’s theme is Short and Sweet, stories between 500 and 4,500 words.

I’ve skimmed through a few, and there are some great artworks and fics in there. ♥ So go read!

Some of you may have heard the backstage muttering preparation for this, but whether you’re nodding knowingly or totally surprised, pentapus, ileliberte, and I are running an SGA fanart fest for March and April. And *dramatic pose* we need YOU. Whether you’re artist or not. :)

Here’s the idea: paintedspires is a fanart challenge where a group of SGA artists respond to prompts submitted by the rest of fandom. As such, the challenge will have two rounds of sign-ups: this week for artists, next week for prompts.

Which brings us to the point of this post: Artist sign-ups are now open!. (Link goes to the artist sign-up post at the comm.)

Dates for the Challenge:
March 3-9 (Mon-Sun): Artist sign ups
March 10-16 (Mon-Sun): Prompt sign ups
March 17-23: Claiming prompts
Mid to late April: Art posting begins

Prompt submission will be open to everyone, so you don’t need to be an artist to participate. We’ll be asking for a mix of prompts so that those giving the prompts and those giving the art can both have fun doing what they like to do–whether that’s Mckay/Sheppard or Cadman dressed as a double-oh agent or anything in between. Once that’s done, we’ll compile the prompts for the artists to choose from (though we’ll keep who claimed what prompt secret until posting opens). Then, in mid-April, the community will open, posting at least one piece of art a day, a sort of spring advent calendar of joy, which will go on until we run out of art.

To be completely vague:

(a) I didn’t expect her to die.

(b) Did expect her to die though.

(c) Expected him to die halfway through the series.

(d) Didn’t… quite expect those two to go out that way.

(e) Still couldn’t care less about Yang Su’s son’s plotline. Boring as hell.

(f) There is a profuse amount of politics- and war-speak through the entire series. See me be confused during 75% of those discussions.

(g) Wow the ending was not fulfilling at all. D: I want my sap fix, nao.

In conclusion, ★★★☆☆. I’d give it 2.5, but the beginning was stupid-free enough to give it a nudge up. Granted, the last 5 episodes were… uh. Yeah. Drawn out much. D: The background music got repetitive really. Fast. Gag. It’s a decent series to skim through or watch on YouTube (holyc0ws has all but two of the episodes up), but far from the prettiness calibre of, say, “Goong”, or even the mainland products of Jin Yong novels. Maybe if they had a bigger budget! Haha.

So I’m watching this series called 《红拂女》 (Hong Fu Nu) after hearing the blatherings of dangermousie. It’s surprisingly good, considering the strange things that Asian dramas sometimes have.

I did forget how absolutely slow Chinese dramas are haha.

It’s weird to watch this though, because if you know anything about Chinese history, you know Li Shi Min as one of the two founding fathers of the Tang Dynasty and considered one of the best emperors in Chinese history.

The main girl, Hong Fu, is really pretty! And not in the standard Chinese way, with tiny lips and pale face and whatnot. She’s got a wide, full mouth, and got these cute little freckles on her cheeks that the makeup attempts to hide.

Her main love interest Li Jing is really cute too, in that earnest, Dong Yong (Hu Ge in “Fairy from Wonderland”) sort of way. Except not quite so dumb. :D

There’s always the political things going on, of course, to drive the plot of the story. I must say, when the old people start blathering, I start zoning out because it’s a lot of gibberish. It’s easy enough to understand everything else, even if they use non-vernacular Chinese, because the vocabulary isn’t completely out there.

I also have absolutely zero interest in the Son of Yang Su storyline. :T I just skim over those parts. It’s so boring. D:

I’m on ep 13, and I have no idea who’s going to end up with whom. I’m going to suspect Hong Fu with Li Jing just because, as the default couple. As much as Li Shi Min likes Hong Fu, he’ll be the Emperor in the end, so I doubt he’ll be able to have her. XD

Really enjoying this though~
